Buying a HomeRule#1: You MUST MUST MUST have someone representing YOU in a real estate transaction!!! While not required by law... having a representative to look out for YOUR interests is plain-old "smart business". And better yet, it costs you NOTHING to have an agent represent you in that transaction (the seller customarily pays any commissions). In the old days, the saying was "the agent always represent the seller". NOT true anymore. Now, real estate agents in Ohio are required to declare who they represent. "Buyer's representation" means that you, the buyer, can be represented by your own agent. (click here for the state required Consumer Guide to Agency Relationships) A house is a significant investment that not only involves money... but also deep sentiments. You don't go to sleep in a portfolio of stocks, nor do you wake in the morning to a stack of bonds! And face it, buying a new home can be stressful. So many things to consider. Lifestyle, goals, commitments, needs, wishes, resale considerations etc.
